The European Commission has decided to strengthen the role of communication and information regarding the European Union and the investments promoted through structural funds. To overcome the institutional level and reach the citizens, a new approach to communication was therefore adopted, strongly oriented towards the objective of “informing” and “making visible” how EU policies affect the daily life of citizens and what is its added value.
The Cohesion Policy implemented through the Structural and Investment European Funds (SIE), including the European Regional Development Fund, is in fact the most important investment means of the Union to address Europe’s main problems and therefore the most important topic convincing to show its role and added value and to reduce the distances between the Union and citizens. For this reason, the communication of the operational programs (OP) supported by the SIE funds has been recognized as having a strategic role in increasing the knowledge, awareness and participation of men and women, citizens of the Union, in relation to decisions, opportunities and benefits that European integration offers, influencing the daily lifestyle.
In the 2014-2020 program, the Communication Strategy is called to proactively contribute to greater visibility and understanding of the benefits of SIE funds, including through the direct involvement of stakeholders and citizens. In this context, communication and information are even more oriented towards giving visibility to the results of the investments promoted by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF).
The Regional Operational Program of the European Regional Development Fund 2014-2020 of the Lombardy Region provides, for investments, about one billion euros identifying as priority objective that of the economic, productive and social growth of the territory and of the regional productive fabric. The ROP ERDF promotes a model of smart, sustainable and inclusive growth in line with the objectives identified by the Europe 2020 Strategy and with regional development policies in favor of the productivity and competitiveness of businesses and the entire territorial system.
