Why is detectable plastic used in the food industry?
At every stage of product processing in the food industry, we must avoid any contamination of any origin, and the absence of pollutants is fundamental. Furthermore, many regulations ensure the quality of the final product.
If a batch becomes contaminated with fragments of plant equipment, its integrity is compromised. The nozzles, clamps, and washing heads in detectable material minimize the risk of contamination.
To prevent food producers from having any problem from this point of view, PNR Italia is introducing its classic products (nozzles, washing heads, clamps) made of MDT material (magnetically detectable thermoplastics).
What are metal detectable plastics?
Plastics that are produced with additives that make them identifiable by metal detectors are defined as “detectable.”
Plastic materials that metal detectors can detect are used in the food industry to prevent accidental contamination of the supply chain caused by fragments of components from machines and process equipment.
Any detector can detect MDT compounds, even when present in tiny parts, making them suitable for metal substitution.
MDT compounds are traceable from all the metal detectors on the market (both those with a fixed magnet and those with balanced coils), contrary to compounds loaded with ferromagnetic powders.
Furthermore, MDT compounds do not require steel or metal powders, and carbon, graphite, or carbon black fibers are not included. Thanks to these characteristics, the components manufactured with MDT do not release, in operation, powders or particles that are difficult to confine and therefore capable of dispersing in the working atmosphere and contaminating either the process or the finished products.
The MDT products are suitable for contact with food, and are produced in dark blue color in order to be better identified under any circumstances.
What is the advantage of using detectable plastic nozzles, washing heads and clamps?

Most detectable plastics are detectable by x-rays, magnetically and visually, thanks to their color.
This makes it easy to identify them both in finished and semi-finished products.
2 | FLOATING
Detectable plastics float, making them even easier to spot.
3 | CHEMICAL RESISTANCE
Like all plastics, even detectable ones are extremely resistant from a chemical point of view.
