At PNR Italia, we have a state-of-the-art in-house laboratory equipped with the best-measuring instruments. Direct testing of our products is essential to guarantee the quality of nozzles, atomisers, and tank cleaning nozzles. The laboratory allows us to perform standard tests on all products and, on request, specific analyses according to customer requirements.
The instrumentation in our laboratory allows us to perform various tests on our products at the customer ‘s request:
A diagram that indicates the variation of capacity and spray angle for different pressures.
Depending upon the nozzle design, variations of feed pressure may have a great influence on the spray angle value. This test is made with a measurement optical system.
Spray coverage depends on the amplitude of the spray angle, the distance between the nozzle orifice and the target to be covered, and the pressure. The actual values can differ a lot from the theoretical values.
This test can give precise information about how evenly the spray drops are distributed onto the area covered by the mist. The water distribution along the spray coverage is determined using a “Patternator.”
PNR Italia's droplet size test reports are performed by Laser Interferometer (PDPA – Phase Doppler Particle Analyzer), where two laser beams cross at a given spray point and define a test probe area. Droplets flying through the probe area cause light scatter, which is picked up by the instrument receiver and processed through a computer to obtain relevant information about the spray characteristics, such as Sauter Mean Diameter, distribution curve of droplets diameter (micron), distribution curve of droplets velocities (MPs).
Test made on spray nozzle can be performed also on air blowing nozzles.
Ultrasonic atomizers and air blowers produce noise; therefore, we can prodmakeiagram of the noise level for different working pressures and distances.
Our own-made descaling bench test can give precise information on descaling nozzles, such as impact pressure (maximum and average), area of impact (three-dimensional), and overlapping coverage.
For our tank washing devices, we can determine the wetting radius (the radius where the equipment can wet the entire tank's inner surface) and the washing radius, which depend on the product to be washed off, the cleaning fluid, the operating pressure, and the temperature.
Depending on the request of the customer, we are available to settle any kind of test, in order to provide all the information regarding our products.
PNR Italia’s lab has many technologically advanced machines and instrumentation for measuring the performance of nozzles, tank washing devices, and atomizers:
PNR Italy offers its customers the possibility of determining the performance of descaling nozzles using a modern test bench, in order to obtain an accurate measurement of impact force at certain pressures.
All descaling parameters are tested and validated with the most advanced measuring instruments and fully comply with International Standards. The high performance, quality, and reliability of PNR Italia’s descaling nozzles, successfully sold for nearly fifty years to satisfied customers worldwide, can be supported with lab testing and validation field trials.

The water distribution along the spray coverage is determined by means of an instrument called Patternator. A patternator consists of the following parts : a liquid collector, a cell block, a measure block and an unloading block.
The nozzle is positioned above the equipment to hit the capturer orthogonally. For measuring the linear distribution, a linear pick-up is used, for the angular distribution a circular distributor. Each collector channels the droplet flow into its own collection cell. The measuring block determines the amount of liquid collected and the discharge block allows the liquid to be discharged after the test.
The Phase Doppler Anemometer (PDA) allows droplet size and velocity measurement, By observing and evaluating the optical effects that occur during the passage of the spray through a volume formed by two laser beams, the size and speed of the droplets are determined.

Our Spray Pressure and Pattern Sensor detects the distribution and pressure of a spray jet. It is a matrix touch surface sensor, an “electronic skin” that records and interprets the spray pressure distribution.
By interpreting the pressure data obtained from the sensor, we can ensure that the pressure and coverage of the spray generated by our nozzles are the desired ones.
